Summary: Great information source!
Comment: This book will walk you through the process of choosing and, more importantly, using a jointer or planer SAFELY. A must-read if you plan to use either tool and are not sure on the proper technique to use.

Summary: Error in Book
Comment: I have almost all the Rick Peters tool books and have been mostly pretty happy with them.

I've found an error in this one. It says if your jointer is making a concave cut you need to lower the outfeed table. Checking other sources and thinking through the problem, I've found that's backwards. The diagrams and advice in the book are wrong.

If your jointer is making a concave cut, you need to raise the outfeed table, or as in the case of my jointer with a non-adjustable outfeed, lower the cutters.

Such a fundamental error worries me as to the accuracy of this series of books. I've looked for someway on line to provide feedback to the publisher but if there is such a place they've hidden it well.

Editorial Reviews:

It happens all the time: woodworkers proudly survey their handiwork only to discover gaps in the glue joints and between parts. The solution? This comprehensive guide. It delves into every aspect of each tool—basic anatomy, features, motor sizes, dust ports, maximum cut, and more. Check out bench-top, stationary, and portable models of each; accessories, such as push sticks and knife-sharpening jigs; and all the must-know techniques, including face and edge jointing and staggered cut planing. There are advanced procedures, too—from rabetting and tapering a post to ganged cuts and molding—as well as fixtures to make, maintenance and repair advice, and exciting projects.
