Customer Rating: Summary: I Have Upgraded My "10" to a 10CW2!! Comment: First of all, I must tell you that I am very glad to finally have a table saw. I have been shopping for over two years and was not really sure I wanted the Jet until the Christmas tool sale at Lowe's. Had it not been for that I can't say that I would have committed to this saw had it still been at full price.
Actually, the Jet was my first pick but I had since developed some doubts about them. The bargain price lured me in (much better than here,) but if you're like me you want to know what I like and dislike about it.
First the bad, in order of personal annoyance:
1. As I had stated, I have upgraded with the cast wings from Jet (Big $$$$) but in the end it was worth it. 'Nough said.
2. The fence and miter gauge. They are both just OK, but to get real accuracy you will need to spend at least another $400-$500 to replace both... the cheapest (...) Or for a total of $950-1000.00+/- (saw included) for good controllable, stable set ups. (edit: Though I had come to terms with it after much playing around, but found a newer Micro-Adjust fence on eBay. An improvement to be sure. I'd still replace the miter gauge, (Delta seems to make a nice one that doesn't cost too much) but it is usable as long as you check it carefully after EVERY adjustment. Don't rely on the scale or the "flip-stop" (it bends easily) to do it for you. It won't! Trash the "JetFence."
3. The dust collection "hood" stinks! I will replace this too. (Edit: I made my own. See my review of the Jet hood #JW1005 and I'll tell you how.)
4. The safety splitter and anti-kickback paws are nearly useless. They are difficult to install and uninstall when necessary, real knuckle busters. OK, we all know that most people who actually USE their table saws remove these items most of the time, but I would use them more often (I'm a safety guy. I like my fingers right where they are) if it weren't for the time and effort it takes to uninstall them when I need a dado blade, or am running 4" tall material through the blade. You can replace these with aftermarket quick release/quick setup items for around $430.00. What a bargain. }:-( That's nearly as much as the saw originally cost.
5. The drive belt: Before I made any important cuts with this tool I immediately replaced the drive belt with a PowerTwist Plus A20-60. My cheap Jet now runs smoother than my neighbors' more expensive Delta. (Please see my review of this product for complete details.) It's WELL worth the $30.00 investment.
6. Mostly the manual was enough for setup. As others here have said, I set mine up in about four hours except a few areas where I found it lacking: It was a little vague in the area of converting the saw/motor to 230 volt operation, like what current (amps) it would draw at 230? Should I install a 20 amp plug, receptacle and breaker, or a 30 amp? (Answer: Install the 20 amp if you convert); Also a few more suggestions about lining up and leveling the side extensions would've been nice, like how to bend them more accurately; and finally, not all of the various hardware bags were clearly marked and I found myself guessing... correctly as it turns out, at what hardware the manual was referring to.
Note: For those who have read other customer reviews here, mine did come with it's own blade. It's a 40T, carbide tipped, and it ain't bad either! It does leave a little to be desired in the cross-cutting department. I do get some tear-out with it, but it's OK. I will replace it with a better one eventually, but it is quite good for a "get acquainted" type blade. (I did! See Freud TK406, F60T. For $35.00 you can't beat it with a Forrest.)
The good:
1. The motor is strong and starts, and pulls evenly to full speed, and can be converted to 230v operation.
2. The arbor assembly is strong and smooth (gear, not belt) operating.
3. The blade (see above comments.)
4. For the most part the saw was easy to setup.
Suggestion: No matter how much room you have or don't have, get a mobile base. Jets' own works well and is easy to set up but is a little clumsy in actual use. The Jet base has four individual wheels (back)/casters (front) to lock and unlock which is not so convenient when you have 30, or 52" fence rails to get around, and it doesn't allow for easy side-to-side movement either. On the other hand, my neighbor recently set up a Ridged Herc-u-lift on his Delta (he said, "$50!".) Four casters that come up all the way when not in use and a one foot pedal operation. I am not a fan of the "Big Orange" but I should have done this.
My recommendation: If you are set on getting the Jet, get this model with the cast iron wings (suffix:"CW2" Usually about $100 more, and it will cost you a LOT more ($250.00+ freight) later to do it as I did) and if the funds allow, the Xacta fence though the new Micro-Adjust fence from Jet is an improvement.
If you are cutting a lot of sheet material plan on building or buying a side table extension and an outfeed table. They're easy to build yourself and make a nice first project. (See Rockler for hardware kits.)
I hope this helps you decide and Good Luck with your own dreams!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great saw for the money Comment: I feel that the Jet JWTS-10CW2-JF is a darn good saw for the home woodshop. I upgraded from a bench-top saw to this one, so I can't say I've had years of experience with table saws. However, this saw is smooth, has cut everything I've fed it with no hesitation, and is very accurate.
The saw arrives in two boxes, one for the saw/stand, and one for the jet fence. Unlike the previous reviewer, I wasn't missing any hardware from the fence box. In fact I had everything I needed except for one hex screw which I was lucky enough to have on hand. Assembly wasn't hard at all, it went together easily within a few hours by myself. The blade was aligned to the miter slots out of the box, and it was simple to square the table extensions. The splitter/guard assembly took a bit more adjustment, but wasn't difficult to align.
Cutting wood with this saw is a dream compared to what I had. The cuts are very accurate, and there is little or no binding or burning. I think the older models of this saw came with a blade because other reviewers have mentioned one, but mine didn't. I bought a Freud multi purpose think kerf blade. There have been complaints about the jet fence, which I now appreciate. It's not something that can't be worked around, but it does wander around a bit during lock down. It seems there's a little play between full release and full down. You can work with it if you lock it down partially, tweak where you want it, then lock it down all the way. You shouldn't have to do that, but it works for the money.
Overall I'm very happy with the saw. If there were a negative aspect to it, it'd be the difficulty in quickly removing the blade guard. If you need to cut a dado or kerf, you have to loosen 2 bolts and pull the table insert. Seriously not a big deal, I'm sure most other saws in this class are the same. Unfortunately when you replace it you have to realign it again. Would've been cool if Jet devised some kind of quick release mechanism. Regardless, I would recommend this saw to anyone, I'm very satisfied.
Customer Rating: Summary: 4 stars with Jet Fence - 5 with Xacta II Comment: This was my first Jet purchase. Runs very good. I never liked the Jet fence though, it seems a little short and I wish it had more support on the outfeed side. I ended up buying a xacta fence II which is made by HTC. Was like night and day. This functions almost like a cabinet saw, at least in my dreams with these additions: I replaced the v-belt with a link belt which made the saw quite and a bit smoother. I also replaced the manufacturer supplied trunion bolts in the saw with the PALS (Precision Alignment System) which allows you to micro adjust your blade's alignment.
Assembly as all my Jet purchases have been a breeze. Until it's time to align the belt and apply tension to the belt. That is the tricky part with a one-man assembly.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Saw Comment: I ordered this saw through Amazon. Assembly and instructions were pretty easy. I used a straight edge (that's used to check engine blocks & heads) for setting the wings and they are right on. I switched it over to 220, the saw has cut everything I threw at it with like butter. Problem still unresolved, the pivot pin for the miter gauge was missing. Call Jet and since I bought it from Amazon, I have to get parts through Amazon. So far it's been over 2 weeks and still no part. Was going to order the Jet Jointer but after the fence deal I bought it from a local Woodcraft store. Other then that I'm happy with the saw.
Customer Rating: Summary: The best contractor saw available! Comment: I am a 17 year-old woodworker, and I have had my Jet 10" contractor saw for a little over a year now, and it has performed amazingly. I wanted to get a cabinet saw but I barely had enough money to get a contractor saw. After doing some research i decided on getting a Jet table saw with its nice powder coating paint, and its nicely polished cast iron top. This saw cuts nicely and is pretty quiet, and I love the sound of the saw, especially when the blade break stops the blade. I made a 4'x5' outfeed table, And just recently purchased a 40" Biesemeyer home shop rip fence, and now the saw is just perfect, I can cut a full sheet of plywood all by myself effortlesly. When I first got it I added a power-link belt which dramatically cut down the vibration, One day ill get a cabinet saw, but for noe this saw does the perfect job, good investment.

The two precision-ground, cast-iron wings set this saw apart from average contractor-style saws with steel wings. Heavy-duty cast-iron trunnions support the sealed ball-bearings' blade arbor housing for a smooth performance with minimal vibration. JET also uses totally enclosed fan-cooled motors, preventing overheating and dust infiltration and resulting in longer motor life and less risk of a fire hazard than with open motor housing. The stand for this saw is made of a tougher-gauge metal and has a 4-inch dust port for easy connection to a dust collector. Another user-friendly feature is the quick-connect electrical plug right at the saw, meaning you don't have to search out the wall socket prior to every blade change. JET has also located the on/off switch at the top left for easy access when a quick shutdown is required. A change in the hole pattern on the fence rails means lefties can now shift the set to their preferences. The fit, finish, and use of a more durable powder coating instead of paint will make a proud owner of every user--from the beginner who wants to learn with confidence to the seasoned pro who doesn't have space for a full-size cabinet saw. --Nancy Gleason
