Summary: Awesome Router
Comment: She's big and can do most anything. I am impressed with how easy it is to use and how smooth the plunging is. Like I said it's big so if you are looking for something smaller (and obviously less power) then this may not be the one but for a powerfull all encompassing router this is a great one.

One recommendation to Bosch though is to maybe use a stronger more flexible plastic for the shop vac connection accessory. This seems to be the only cheap piece.

P.S. if you want to do dovetails I suggest purchasing Bosch's 7 piece dovetail guide/adaptor kit (sorry can't remember the actual name of it). If you use Porter Cables dovetail jig the guides that mount to the router are screw on and Bosch does not have screw on, it has a very usefull accessory piece that items clamp into and their kit will accomodate most anyones guide or template piece.

Summary: Bosch router problems
Comment: This router was highly rated, but it was not what it was stated to perform. We returned it once as a part was loose in box. The second one, we also returned & got a refund. All processes was handled in a timely & efficient manner.

Summary: Bosch 1619EVS Plunge Router
Comment: First, I have to say that this is my first router so I don't have another one to compare it to. I bought it because of the great reviews I found on this site. I still have some experimenting to do but I have used it for routing hinges and strike plates. Initially I am impressed with the power of the tool. I still find the plunging a bit awkward as I am not always sure that I am pushing the router down all the way. With the attachments for dust collecting it makes it very difficult to see the work area. I did find that the dust collection works great! After a few tests using a hinge template I felt that the router was doing an excellent job. I found the weight of the router (13 lbs) to be a bit prohibitive when using the plastic templates I was using to rout the door. The weight was loosening the nails that hold the template in place. I found that the adjusting knob moves a bit when pushing down the lever that locks it in place. Overall it performs very well and it is built well. I don't feel like I am using one of my son's plastic tools. I have other Bosch tools so I can vouch for their effectiveness.

Summary: I bought another one
Comment: Well I've had a Bosch 1619 for many years, and the bit started to wobble a little bit. It's not a problem as long as the bit has a guide bearing, but plow bits vibrate too much for comfort. I decided not to buy another Bosch, because the wobble thing annoyed me.
I looked at all the competitors, including festool. I really was totally prepared to spend the $500 plus the extra collets and accessories. Then I tried the plunge mechanism. It sucks. Bad.
So I moved on to the Porter Cable. Massively heavy, but American quality, right? Made in taiwan. And the shaft wobbles more than my 4 year old Bosch.
I won't bore you with all the models, but in the end, I bought another Bosch. I didn't even know about the spring release after all those years. I guess it does pay to read the manual sometimes. The dust collector attachment is obviously an afterthought, and total junk. Luckily I still have the first one, so they won't get too lonely sitting in a drawer somewhere.
The speed control feature and soft start are also unrivaled. I have found that the router works better and much more quietly(er) if the speed is turned down just a little (one click over 5).
The baseplate can also be adjusted so that it is centered under the bit because the holes are slightly oversized and flat bottomed. This is nice when using the template guides, because the quick release device attaches to the baseplate, so it is easy to adjust.
All in all, I think you've found the best 3+ HP router available.

Editorial Reviews:

Bosch has combined power and performance to create a plunge router that's ideally suited for virtually any application. The powerful 3-1/2-horsepower Bosch 1619EVS offers variable speeds of 8,000 to 21,000 rpm and a soft-start feature that minimizes startup torque. With a router this big and powerful, it's especially nice to have the motor start up gradually, as opposed to jumping to life the way other models do. Complementing the powerful motor, the 3-3/4-inch base opening allows this router to accept large bits, including raised-panel bits. The 1619EVS maintains a constant rpm, too, no matter what knots or gnarls a bit encounters, thanks to Bosch's Constant-Response Circuitry. And the convenient front spindle lock makes changing bits a snap between applications. But perhaps the most unique feature of the 1619EVS is its exclusive under-table setup system, which lets a user make depth adjustments as easy as 1-2-3. --Carl Thress
