Most plunge routers don’t get along with router tables, but the Freud 3-1/4-horsepower variable speed plunge router does, and quite beautifully. After setting the depth, a turn of the big micro-adjustment knob gets the bit precisely where you want it. Out of the table, we loved the slant of the handles because they eliminate the awkward angle most routers require for a sure grip. The big power switch is a great design, too, with an L-shaped lip for fast, sure-handed power control. The wide base offers a nice, stable ride, and open-ended plastic sheathing protects the plunge columns from sawdust and debris. Electronic control offers constant speed under varying loads, and the soft start keeps the tool from even the slightest start-up twist. The super-long collet means great bit stability. The case is sturdy, but we can’t imagine needing it--this tool will be in use all the time in any home or professional workshop.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
