Comment: These wide jaws are added to the Emerson line of clamping straight edges. They make the part that Emerson clamp clamps wider.
I bought these not sure if they were worth the money. I can now tell you, they are worth the money and I am going to buy another set. I use the straight edges with my circular saw, router and even jig saw on occasion. I have a biscuit jointer and when routing out the biscuit I use the Emerson clamp on the top of my work bench put the wood against the side of the straight edge. The allows me to push the biscuit jointer against the wood and rout out the biscuit slot. This clamps just hold more and allow me to securely put pressure against the side of the straight edge.
What do they do? They make a great product even better! They add more holding power and stability to the clamping portion. Can you do without them? Yes, they are not absolutely needed.
Now that I have them and use them I recommend them as they just add more stability and lesson the errors that I can make.

Comment: I do not own this either, but thought I would balance the other reviews of guys who do not own this. I have the straight edge and it is nice. This is just the wide jaw clamps. I do not know how they could make it clearer.

Comment: I wonder if people realize that this item is ONLY for a set of wide jaws and NOT for the clamp!
I don't own this, but see it atop the best selling list (at this time) and after a couple of minutes of looking at it I realized that this offering was NOT for the clamp ... I would wager that most purchasers thought it was for the clamp ... the product page is a bit misleading.
