Summary: Grizzly nails it
Comment: First let me say I am 53 years old and have been a woodworker all my life. I have owned a boatyard and commercial millwork shops and owned and operated every major brand of table saw from Delta and Powermatic to Inca. I am very picky about my equipment so I was quite tortured about a new saw for my home shop. I wanted the capacity of a 12" saw and the accuracy of the Inca along with the longevity of the Powermatic. I was impressed with the specs of the G5959Z on paper- outboard bearings, ample cast table, 5hp motor, 52" Fence and the description of "industrial grade". I have owned other Grizzly tools from planers and jointers to bandsaws and air handlers- all good, but some better than others.

The saw came in with some shipping issues involving the fence which were quickly attended to by Grizzly customer service. Assembly was quick but I was also careful to keep things accurate. The tables were nicely cast and surface ground- well within my standards of accuracy. The blade was also well set up to the table- parallel and square- impressive because I have never had a new Delta come in as close. Arbor runout was excellent. The fence is a very substantial Biesemeyer clone and was easily set up and adjusted. The handwheels for tilt and raise were better than expected- very smooth operation with very positive locks. The tilt vernier was right on- dead accurate.

My first test was with 3" Rock Maple. The motor did not bog or slow with a Forrest Woodworker 2. It was a clean cut with slight burn so I eased the fence at the rear and pulled off two perfect cuts. I then tried 8/4 teak and some 4" oak- no slowing or stalling with very clean cuts and no tooth marks. I am a very happy man.

Strengths- Table castings, arbor design, trunion design, handwheels and locks for tilt and raise, motor, fence, cabinet design, and accuracy
Weaknesses- finish on cabinet and tube rail of fence- I think they must be painted because they degraded with the Grizzly citrus degreaser. There were also some sags and drips on the cabinet. Grizzly claims they are powder coated but time will tell. I have never seen powder coating react in this way. If they deteriorate I will just have them powder coated locally with my savings over a Powermatic. The belts are also a question- I prefer the 3 belt system, but they do cause some vibration on startup. I am thinking of switching over to segmented belts or at least Gates or some other domestic brand belt.

Editorial Reviews:

This industrial grade saw can handle the extra big jobs, all day, every day. And don't worry if you're stepping up to this beast from a 10" saw; it includes quick change 5/8" and 1" arbors, so you can keep your old blades. The G5959Z Left Tilting series has all the features you'd expect from a top quality cabinet saw, plus some you'll pay extra for elsewhere. But don't take our word for it - check it out yourself! Other features include: 34-1/2" table height from floor; rim speed of 13,000 SFPM; precision ground cast iron table; 13-1/4" distance from front of table to blade at maximum cut; 18-1/8" distance from front of table to center of blade; table size with wings of 30-1/4" deep x 48" wide; 3/8" x 3/4" T-slots; cast iron mitre gauge; 4" dust port; triple v-belt power transfer; clear plastic guard with steel splitter; sloped cabinet floor assists dust collection; dual arbors measuring 5/8" and 1"; heavy-duty cam lever fence; magnetic switch with thermal overload protection; machined collar on arbor; outboard bearing; overall dimensions of 81-1/2" wide x 38-1/2" deep x 39-1/2" high; approximate shipping weight of 635 lbs.
