Summary: Best of the Swisstools
Comment: This is my favorite Swisstool. There are two common criticisms of the Swisstool Spirit compared to the other Swisstools: the lack of a ruler and that the blade is a straight-razor-shaped serrated blade instead of the normal swiss-army blade shape.

I actually prefer the serrated blade because its shape makes it easier to cut by pulling toward you, kind of like a box cutter. If you need to stab something you can use the awl.

The lack of a ruler on the handle is regrettable, but the curve in the handle makes using the pliers much more comfortable.

The scissors on the Spirit are *much* nicer than the scissors on the Swisstool X and the various swiss-army knives. They have a steel lever instead of a chinsy spring.

The Spirit is smaller, lighter, and easier to handle than the other Swisstools.

For me, the lack of a ruler is more than compensated for by a better blade shape, a better pair of scissors, and better overall ergonomics.

That said, all the Swisstools are wonderful. I prefer them to Leathermans (?).

Summary: Best multi-tool I've found
Comment: I just finished ordering my second Spirit tool -- the one I've been using for the past couple years was confiscated by TSA when I accidently left it in my carry-on bag a few weeks ago. I've owned Gerber and Leatherman brand tools before, and the Victorinox is definitely a cut above in terms of make, finish, tool variety and accessibility.

I really like how I can access all of the tools I use most often (scissors, screwdrivers, knife) without having first unfold the tool into the plier configuration. Most other brands aren't set up this way. Having scissors is another very important feature to me, and these work very well, as does the "sheep's foot" style serrated blade. The blunt tip of the blade makes opening packages and cutting delicate things safer, and after well over a year of daily use the blade on my old tool was still razor sharp and ready to cut through anything. The pliers and wire cutters work well, but are on the small side, and if I found myself using the wire cutters all the time I'd probably wish for more cutting area. I think the bigger SwissTool, along with SOG mutli-tools, are probably better in the plier/cutter department, although SOG is far more expensive, and in my opinion less comfortable to use and carry.

The mirrored finish on the Spirit tool really holds up well, and everything functions precisely: the tools can be easily pulled out one at a time, and they all lock and unlock positively and intuitively. Its also a great size, smaller than most other multi tools but with great functionality, and the curved handles make it easy on the hands in high-torque applications. It looks and feels very well made, and after handling several different makes of multi-tool I still think Victorinox is by the far the best made tool out there. I went for the "Spirit Plus" this time, which is the same Spirit tool but with a ratchet and bit set. It hasn't arrived yet but I have high hopes. . .

Summary: Amazing!!!!!!!!
Comment: I am very pleased with this. I have had this for over a year and it is just as good as it was when I got it. This is what I think of it:

1. Excellent quality, just as all the other tools they make. No lose
parts, no warps, and no defects.

2. Great duribillity. I have used it constanly and it is good as
new.
I even took this up with me when I went to Canada when I went
fishing with my Grandpa and his friends. I was concern about it
going over board so I tied a thin rope to it and the other end to
my swiss pocket knife, ( Yeah I am a swiss junky) I then looped
the middle of it slipped it over my belt. The total length of the
rope was about the length of my wingspan (probably a bit longer)
so it was long enough so that it wasn't so short but short enough
so that I didn't have worry about tripping.
And I did have to cut a anchor rope while it was over water so
there was a chance that it sink like a rock. Plus my hands were
freezing!
And absolutely no rust or scratches!!!

3. It has all the tools you need to survive!!! It really does, the
only thing that you could woory about is not having a normal blade
for wood working, but the serrations do not interfer with
widiling and you have the bit of a strait edge at the bottom
(where it won't get dull) for finishing tips on spears. Plus who
needs a pointed tip on there knife anyway???
Also about all funny extra tools on tools that don't make sins?
In my opinion they do that because it dose not drive up production
cost and in cuts down on wait removing excess weight where it
would been useful.

All in all I think this thing is perfect. Plus it has a great looking pouch. Long with a good looking tool!!!

If you like going hiking or anything outdoors. Get it!!!

Summary: A Perfectly Crafted Tool
Comment: Recently, I had the chance to handle Leatherman's Charge TTi, which could be considered their premier model. Although it was definitely of high quality, its movement and feel was more clunky than expected. The Swiss Spirit, on the other hand, has a movement like no other - totally fluid and precise. As someone who has already handled several of Victorinox's Swiss Army Knives, I thought I couldn't be "wow'ed" anymore by their quality, but this tool exceeded my expectation. It's great for home repair, electrical work, and outdoor excursions.

A few notes on the design:

The locking tools are the highlight for me. Every tool locks into place when extended; the mechanism is easy to operate yet very effective.

The tool itself is fairly small and relatively lightweight yet solid. For such a small size, it embodies a good combination of functionality and versatility, and it fits my hand perfectly (average sized guy's hand).

It should be noted that the pliers move very freely and do not stick, spring back (into an open position), or hold their position. Some might count this as a negative, but I believe its functionality to be, nevertheless, unhindered and, perhaps, favorable.

The tools themselves cover a wide range of on-the-job necessities, that have already come in handy in numerous situations - I do some light carpentry and construction on occasion and regular yard work.

The carrying case is also a major plus. Although the tools are stainless steel, anyone who knows their steels can tell you that even stainless steels can rust when neglected. The case is made of a fairly thick brown leather with a velcro closure that should shelter the tools from the weather and general neglect. I personally love the look of it too - very classic/timeless styling.

All in all, I can't see how anyone could think they made a bad purchase on this item. I was on the fence for awhile, did a little research on the tool, debated about buying it some more, and eventually figured it wouldn't kill me if I got it... and I'm glad I did... and you will be too.

Summary: I Love it!
Comment: Great selection of tools. So far, the only tool that I needed that this handy multi-tool did not cover was a pipe wrench. I didn't really buy it for that use and did not expect to use it for that. Product is strong and durable. I use it on a daily basis, so it gets alot of use.
