Customer Rating: Summary: Wet Saw - Serves the purpose.. Comment: I bought this to trim down some tiles for a firepit I had that had broken tiles. Worked great. The guide would be my only complaint. It is just a little flimsy and hard to get a good/precise setting. But all in all this is a decent saw.
Customer Rating: Summary: Quick Delivery Comment: Delivery of the saw was prompt. I haven't used it yet but it appears to be a well built wet saw.
Customer Rating: Summary: Priceless for the price. Comment: I bought this saw because it's much, much cheaper than to rent one from my local hardware store. It's the same price you pay for just one day of renting one. Plus you have to mess with the hassle of hauling one and returning it and trying to finish your job as soon as possible so you minimize the rental fee. If you just buy this average consumer grade tile saw, you can take your sweet time knowing you own it already. Granted I've never used a wet tile saw before, this is what I thought of it.
Pros:
* The PRICE. Cheapest wet tile saw I've seen out there. Infinitely times better than renting one.
* Performance. It got the job done. It cut the tiles the way I wanted it to. My tile project turned out the way I wanted it to. No other comments on performance needed.
* Size. It's small and portable enough to haul back in the house and out on the deck when you need to cut something.
Cons:
* Mess. Yes, it *will* get you wet, especially when the water pan is full. Keeping the tile guard on top keeps the splashing to the minimum, but definitely expect to have dusty dirty water thrown at you. Wear old clothes that you don't mind having to throw away.
* Water pan. One reason why this is so cheap compared to those $200+ saws is that it uses a water reservoir that the blade dips into upon every spin. This eliminates a motorized electric pump. Unfortunately for me, this meant that I had to fill up the pan with the hose after every 5 passes or so. Also, I couldn't find a way to remove the pan to empty and clean it out. I just ended up tilting the whole unit over.
* Fence and diagonal jig. Very cheap and flimsy. First I tried using it but I had an extremely hard time aligning it and getting it perfectly parallel to the blade and it still didn't turn out right. I just ended up removing it altogether. Furthermore, the jig it comes with to make 45 deg. cuts was worthless as well. Just make your cuts freehand and it will turn out much better because you have more control over your cutting. It cuts slowly anyway so it's easy to guide your tile through it.
* Shipping. The box was shipped without being put in another shipping box. That being said, the box it comes in was *not* meant for shipping. There is no padding whatsoever, it was just placed in a box meant to be bought at a store. When I found it at my doorstep, it literally looked like the UPS guy used it as a soccer ball. It was dented, mauled, torn, and everything. There were a few bent metal pieces, but nothing too bad. The saw still worked perfectly.
Bottomline:
Despite its flaws, it has literally saved me hundreds of dollars by buying this cheap little guy than renting a bigger and better one for a week or more. Highly recommended for your tiling needs.
Customer Rating: Summary: Satisfied with the product. Comment: I purchased a Northern Industrial Wet Tile saw from Amazon.com and used it to cut tiles for my kitchen backsplash. The item was delivered on time and was easy to work with. For the low purchase price the product perfomed reasonably well. I recommend this product for do-it-yourself projects.
