Customer Rating: Summary: Bench Dog Freehand accessory Comment: I was making an arched raised panel door and this turned out to be a necessity. I tried to make it with out and it became apparent that I needed something extra. I have a panel attachment but you are working blind and I needed to see what I was doing. This worked great; I really like my bench dog.
Customer Rating: Summary: Heavy Duty Comment: Finally, a company who makes a quality product at a decent price. This thing is well made. It has a cast aluminum dust shroud and a very thick Plexiglas cover/guard. The assembly holes line up fine and it does just what it was designed for. When will other company's get it. We will pay a fair price for a quality product (like this) but we will leave other companys when they take advantage of us and start to gouge us.
Customer Rating: Summary: BenchDog Free-Hand Guard Comment: Guard is made of two components - A heavy plexi shield and aluminum back plate. I looked at other guards online [...] but found this to be of higher quality. I mounted this guard to a BenchDog top and was not pleased to find that I had to drill the phenolic router plate for mounting. I would have thought parts from the same company would be more compatible. Directions were poor - not that this guard takes a lot of thinking to mount but a drill diagram would have been handy. This guard comes with three hex machine bolts but no nuts. I am sure BenchDog created this for an aluminum router plate with pre-drilled and treaded holes but I was not willing to upgrade the plate just to mount this guard. Went to the local hardware store and purchased some small star nuts and ran the bots from the bottom with the star nuts on top. This way I can remove it when I want to use the fence. This mounting proves that this guard can be attached to any table, not just BenchDog brand. I am happy with the quality; it is a good size, heavy and has good dust collection. It is an attractive and functional addition to my router table that will increase the safety of my shop. (5) Stars for the quality and (-1) for poor directions and additional purchase of hardware.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very effective dust control Comment: In building a round-top frame and panel passage door, I needed a starting pin (fulcrum) in order to make safe cuts without a fence. It is a huge added bonus to have such effective dust control. My ShopVac with a 2 1/2" hose sucks up more than 90% of the dust, which is no small matter when cutting such deep profiles. It is also much less scary to have my hands shielded from the nasty sharp carbide edges. It would be hard to imagine a better tool for the job. Highly recommended!
Customer Rating: Summary: A good clean design Comment: This is a very straight forward design combining a safety shield, vacuum port, and starting pin all into one component. The dust collection is effective, and the guard helps keep your fingers out of harms way.
I mounted mine on a Rockler plate by drilling and tapping three holes, so don't think that it isn't useful if you don't have a Bench Dog plate in your router table.
