This was aparently meant to be a disposable winch, and is built like it.

Summary: Worked grear first time, then the clutch would not release 2nd try
Comment: I loaded my boat, took it to lake. The clutch would not release so cable would spool out when I went to load the boat out of the lake.

Summary: A $67 mistake
Comment: Had mine two weeks and it could not pull out a 17th ft. boat. Locked up. I called Masterlock, they said I had to contact Amazon.com, which you can not call or e-mail. their return policy says I need the original packing box, which I tossed two weeks ago. I'm out $67. The warrenty did me no good.

Summary: Got the job done
Comment: While mowing my lawn, my Sears Lawn Tractor got away from me. While I was working to get it unstuck, it rolled down a steep hill. (Had it not hit a tree, it would have gone off a 20 foot cliff). The wheels got stuck behind large rocks. I bought the winch to pull it up a 40 foot hill, with at least a 45 degree incline. I had to use an additional tow rope even though the instructions warn against this. The winch pulled the tractor up and saved me the money and embarrassment of having to call a tow truck. It worked beyond my expectations.

No need to buy a winch for each vehicle or trailer, this portable DC-powered unit mounts to any hitch or flat surface to haul in that boat, vehicle, trailer, and more! The winch can be temporary or permanently mounted to either a ball-mount hitch or a flat surface. A parallel-shaft gear ensures efficient power for rolling wheeled trailers and vehicles up to 6,000 pounds, pulling things up to 5,000 pounds through water, or dragging items up to 2,000 pounds. The winch shuts down automatically if overloaded. And, a toggle remote control lets you control the action from a distance. The winch is equipped with a 20-foot cable that reaches easily from the front of any truck back to a standard trailer--a nice feature for towing the boat in snug up against the trailer. --Brian D.
