Summary: CPO and Delta Did Very well to make this good
Comment: I, like several others, saw the price of $349 plus $10 shoppng for this and jumped at the offer since my old Delta Rockwell 34-300 was dead and the cost to repair would be too high. Apparently the price shown should have been for a recon 36-978 with no fence (A mapping error or something on Amazons part according to CPO and Amazon customer service reps) Anyway, they offered to ship the recon 36-978 and the fence to make it an equal offer to the one except for recon. I said I really wanted the new one that I in good faith purchased, and CPO and Delta stepped up and shipped me the new one. Customer Service like that is #1 in my book, and when I go to get my Dust Collector I know where I am going to go to purchase that now. I was already a loyal Delta customer, now I am a loyal CPO/Delta customer.

As far as the saw itself, I am still putting it together- An hour here and an hour there- I would say it will be completed in about 5 or 6 total hours. Directions are a little drole to follow- some photos could have been better. My manual shows the bolts for the dust chute attachment in the wrong location- Online manual shows the right one. Best advice is to read through the manual (don't just skim!) as some steps are a little difficult to translate into

Summary: Recon 36-978
Comment:
I got mine as a recon for 373 with shipping, no complaints except that it took 3 weeks for the fence to get here after the saw. I will say though that there was some confusion with CPO Delta and Amazon, but CPO was exceptional and fixed the problem once they were aware of what happened. So keep that in mind CPO has an Excellent Customer Service Dept.

Summary: A good first table saw
Comment: As others have said, this thing was a bear to build. But personally, I was kind of glad to get immediately familiar with the construction of a tool that requires so much safety awareness. I've never owned a table saw before, and I sure did get to know this one as I put it together.

It's construction is solid. I never had serious problems with construction alignment or parts not fitting. The T2 Fence has worked very well. The splitter/blade guard was quite difficult to align, although I think I've gotten it straightened out now.

The wheel system is very well constructed; I've found it tremendously useful already as I move the saw around in my garage from working duty to storage along a wall.

Overall, I've very satisfied with it. Given my experiences with it thus far (4 or 5 small projects in about a month, including building a fairly bare-bones router table) I trust it will give me many years of good service.

Summary: Great saw, great value
Comment: I've had this saw for almost a year, and overall I'm very happy with it. This is a full-sized and full-featured shop tool, and it has done a great job on everything I have needed it to do. And it's perfect for small shops like mine, with limited space where tools have to be moved around often.

It arrived in two boxes - the first with the T2 fence and rails, and the second (the big box) with everything else. The big box arrived on a freight truck with a lift gate and the driver delivered it himself to the middle of my garage, but two strong guys should have no problem getting the big box off the truck if no lift gate and helpful driver is available.

The base went together easily. It's high quality and very sturdy. And the saw fit right on top with no problems. I was able to place the saw on the base by myself, although that was a bit dicey to do alone and I'd recommend having another person around to help. The instructions actually say to mount the base on the upside-down saw and then turn the whole thing over, but that's definitely not a job for one person.

One thing about mounting the saw to the base is that this is the best time to install the dust collection shroud. The instructions say to install the shroud only if you have a dust collector, but I'd recommend installing it even if you don't. You can buy an adaptor to hook up a shop vac, which is what I ultimately did, and it works great. But even if you use no dust collection, the dust just falls down through the 4" hole, and you wind up with a slightly more focused pile of sawdust underneath. And once you finally get some dust collection going, it's much better to have the shroud already in place, because once the saw is bolted to the base, it's much harder to install the shroud, as some stiff sheet-metal tabs will have to be bent out of the way and then bent back after the shroud is installed.

While on the topic of dust collection, note that since this is a contractor saw, it has an open back, and some sawdust does escape that way. I suppose the back could be closed off with some kind of cover, but any cover will have to have cutouts for the motor mount and the drive belt to move through their full range of motion as the blade tilts.

The blade that came with the saw has done well on plywood, MDF and 2x stock, and I've felt no huge need to upgrade yet. I did buy a dado stack though, and beware that the instruction manual for the saw might specify the wrong part number for the corresponding dado blade insert. The correct part number is Delta 36-847.

There was some vibration with the drive belt that came with the saw. I replaced it with a link-belt and that completely eliminated the vibration.

The fence has been great so far. It's easy to install and adjust, slides smoothly, is very solid and sturdy, and, most important, it makes it easy to do precise cuts. As some other reviewers have pointed out, it does not lock at the back rail, and it can be deflected if pushed hard enough, but this hasn't been a problem for me.

All in all this is a great saw and a worthwhile purchase.

Summary: Economy contractor's saw
Comment: I gave this product 5 stars just because I feel feel good about it. There are some reasons to quibble I suppose. But caveat: my previous saws were a sort of crummy Riobi and a long ago 9" Delta. This is much better.
Delta quality? The paint is exceptional. The blade was aligned perfectly with the miter slots. It runs without vibration to my standards. Did have to call Delta to ask for a relacement for one of the rubber feet.
The mobililty system is 2 wheels and two pegs on the ground with a retractable third wheel. Don't know if this is as good as, say, the Rigid which puts four pegs on the ground for operation. Some people complain that the T2 fence doesn't lock in back. I might have paid more if I'd known this. I find visible, possibly 1/64" or so, deflection at table rear with a good bit of pressure. Less that half that at the blade. Since I may get eager/excited in holding the wood to the fence, probably not perfect. But it sets up easily and is easy to adjust. Not to worry maybe. I am getting parallel rips.
Also delivery was quick. Ordered on the weekend; arrived Thursday and Friday; fence separate.
