Customer Rating: Summary: Great, most of the time -updated Comment: I bought this compressor based on great reviews for Thomas products on Amazon. There were no reviews for this model at the time and I had never seen one before. I do finish carpentry and was looking for a light, quiet compressor that was more substantial than the mini Senco or Dewalt models but could carry easily. I assumed it was made in the U.S. but it doesn't say it anywhere on the unit. I am mostly happy after almost a year of use. Some disappointments are; I've had trouble with it starting up on some 15 amp circuits- even directly plugged into the wall (and after draining it and opening the drain valve and only days old). It has trouble with cold starts at times, despite sticker on tank that says "cold weather starts". It is not loud but I wouldn't call mine "quiet". You can talk over it but not at normal levels. I worked with another carpenter who had the Thomas 2 gallon, 3.7 amp model yesterday and his was noticeably quieter. Not a huge deal though.
Other items for your information. No good spot to run a chain through for locking it up. Corners on base are pointy so be careful when carrying it. Before recycling mine will last 4 shots with my Hitachi 2 1/2 " finish gun or 12 shots with my Porter Cable 2" brad nailer. Recycling is pretty fast. Pressure level is excellent but don't do too many fast shots in a row or you'll be pulling out the nail set. I would definitely not recommend it for framing. 95% of the time it is perfect for my use. I had thought of returning it due to the startup problem but I didn't know of a better alternative. P.s. I recommend putting a "T" or "L" on the output so it won't protrude too much. Update, 9-29-08, Still going strong, hasn't had the startup problem for about six months (warm up period?) so I would change my recommendation to four stars if I could...
Customer Rating: Summary: Why did i wait so long??? Comment: greatest compressor i own as a one man show i can use it for any job i am working on. framing and trim no prob! it is light quiet and works in all conditions.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very Good Compressor Comment: I use this in my wood shop for staple and pin guns. It is excellant quality and very quiet in comparison to several others I reviewed. A little more money but in this case - you get what you pay for.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not exactly what I thought. Hopeing they'll take it back. Comment: I am a General Contractor and have puchased this air compressor because of it's weight and noise level. It is VERY light to take up and down stairs and is super quiet. I do kitchen and bath remodels and light framing/sheathing. Despite the ad for this compressor, it will NOT support a framing nailer unless you go very, very slow. After five shots on contact/bump fire the compressor will fall behind and leave you finishing nails with a hammer. Another complaint is that the compressor cycles every 3 minutes when not in use due to leaks. I still chose to give the unit four stars because it feels very solid, is very quiet, and I feel that it could be a great compressor for someone with slightly less demands once the source of the leak was located. It may very well support a framing nailer on sequential mode, but very rarely do I want to go that slow. I am pretty sure there is no chance it will support a texture gun (hopper) or a blow nozzle for more than 10 seconds. I guess I should have known a 27 pound compressor would not handle my needs! If Thomas steps up and takes this compressor back (less than two weeks old), I'll be purchasing their 4 gallon T-200ST compressor. Made in America is a huge plus also. Can't count on Dewalt's piece of crap China tools anymore.
Customer Rating: Summary: Renegade T-635HT Air Compressor Comment: I had a few issues with compressor right from the beginning. 1) There was no where to wind hose for storage 2) When I installed the air chuck onto regulator it exstended 2.5" outside the frame of compressor, where
it is subject to damage, and causes storage issues 3)Compressor will not start using 50 ft. 14 gauge extenision cord, and if cold start up is slugesh using 50 ft. 12 gauge cord. The compressor is small and light weight as described. Which are the main reasons I purchased this machine.
